Another new dress! I’ve been wanting to make this one for a while, but it took a bit of time to get everything into place to start. I picked out over 30 fabrics, chopped ’em into little squares, and gathered them into huge tiers of rainbow-ordered loveliness. Then I tried out smocking/shirring for the first time on the bodice, and it went so smoothly! I was very pleased.
Lyra spotted it on the dress form before it was even finished, and she absolutely loves it. I think it may be her favorite dress ever. Sometimes it becomes necessary to stop her twirling, before she falls over in a dizzy stupor. 😀
The listing is up in the shop.
Update: A PDF tutorial is now available here!
Wow that dress just looks amazing!! wonderfull colors.
I would love to have one of these for my little girl’s rainbow party in one month, but I don’t have time to make them. Are you still making them by chance?
Yes I am, here’s the listing: http://www.etsy.com/listing/70008964/rainbow-patchwork-toddler-dress-smocked
The assortment of fabrics I’m currently using has only changed a little from the original. 🙂
Just saw this dress from Pinterest. Love it! Wish I had time to make my own!
Also coming from Pinterest. This is beautiful! I’d love a pattern!
Thanks for the idea. This is fantastic! And the girl is so sweet too.
My daughter loves this dress and I was going to make her one out of fabrics of her choosing (and then make a matching one for my younger daughter, and I had one quick question. About what size are the squares that you used? I wasn’t looking to make a rainbow one, so I just wanted to use this as a guide. If you don’t want to give away your secrets, I understand:) Beautiful dress and you have wonderful craftsmanship!

Just saw this on Pinterest. I might try and do this in time for St. Pat’s Day! I may get the quilt samples rather then cut myself. Can you give any info as to how you lay out each layer? How many squares per row? Thanks!
Any chance you will be selling the pattern? My daughter would live in this dress!
