Craft This! is a weekly challenge to create any kind of craft based on a chosen theme. Next week’s theme will be posted soon at Tiny Elephant, come join us!
El chose “holiday” for this week’s theme, but she’s Canadian, so she was thinking of vacations. Weird, eh? My mind immediately went to Halloween, and I decided to design a new costume dress.
I ended up with this 19th century-inspired dress, in Lyra’s size.
Fitting somewhere between “colonial” and “prairie”, this dress could make an adorable and original costume for so many characters..Little Bo Peep, Goldilocks, Little Miss Muffet, one of the girls from Little House on the Prairie, American Girl’s Felicity, Jill (of Jack and Jill), and so many more. It’ll be great for random dress-up play, too. I’ll be making a ruffled bonnet to go with it.
The front has pleats, ruffles, and little pearl buttons for decoration.
The sleeves are 3/4 length with ruffles. Solid purple straps tie in back.
I gave it a full circle skirt, so there’s a ton of fabric there, just begging for a pettiskirt. I absolutely love putting Lyra in big poofy skirts. I wish I had one for myself, it looks so fun! 😀
I’m hoping to get some action shots of the dress taken this weekend, and then I’ll put a custom listing up in my shop. This one is for Lyra, but I can make more. 🙂
Love this dress. You wouldn’t make one and sell? Or did you have a pattern?
Hello! I have been selling these, here’s the link: https://www.etsy.com/listing/59416928/19th-century-inspired-costume-dress 🙂
