This is the skirt I made the other day, out of a gorgeous vintage floral print. I love it, I’m hoping I can pick up some more of this fabric and make one for myself, too.

It’s a half circle wrap skirt, so it has quite a bit of flare to it. The wind helped to demonstrate that in this picture.

Here’s the fabric up close. This skirt is in the shop.

Craft This! is a weekly challenge to create any kind of craft based on a chosen theme. Next week’s theme will be posted soon at Tiny Elephant, come join us!
This week’s theme was “baby”. Around here, baby usually refers to one of the many dolls in Lyra’s collection. She doesn’t seem to prefer any one over the others, they are all just “baby”.
Lyra loves to put diapers on her babies, brush their teeth and hair, and attempt to wear them. She brings me a playsilk and asks for help turning it into a sling. With a knot in it, a playsilk makes a great sling. Things get a little more complicated when she wants to wear a baby on her back. It quickly became obvious that she needed a mei tai.

Lyra’s baby mei tai has a head rest that folds down. I think that ought to give us some extra time before she outgrows the carrier, and it will accommodate larger dolls.

I used a scrap of beautiful vintage fabric from a skirt I made the other day, and flannel-backed twill in a natural color for the rest. For maximum babydoll comfort, I put the soft and fuzzy flannel side of the twill towards the baby.

Lyra’s new mei tai works fabulously, the doll is quite secure and comfy in there. No more (accidentally) dropped babies! \o/

About a month ago, I designed six fabrics and had them printed by Spoonflower. The fabrics arrived last week and I got to work turning them into messenger bags. All of the bags are listed in the shop.
There’s a three toned blue butterfly fade bag,

and a bright green grasshopper bag.

TETRIS! And not some sloppy game that’s full of holes, that would be annoying. No, with this bag, you are moments away from scoring a tetris.

This brown bag has colorful rounded squares.

This bag’s flap has bunch of records, player included.

And a grassy one, complete with dandelion fluff being blown away.
Working with my own fabric designs was a lot of fun, I already want to design more!

This week’s theme was “yellow”. I found a pretty, flowery yellow print by Sandy Gervais in my stash and turned it into a wetbag.

I’ve been making wetbags for a while now, and my design has slowly changed from a simple rectangular pouch to a shaped bag with a grabber tab. I think it is handier this way.

Craft This! is a weekly challenge to create any kind of craft based on a chosen theme.
El’s on vacation, so I’m hosting Craft This! here this week.
This week’s theme was “school”. We don’t have a need for school related items in my house this year, so I made a couple of items for my shop. I used the super sweet coordinating fabrics from Cosmo Cricket’s Girl Friday line.

This is a Kindermat cover with an attached pillow.

It’s a great way to dress up the standard red and blue Kindermat, and it’s removable for machine washing. It’s in the shop.

I also made an eco-friendly lunch set, complete with a soft messenger bag style lunchbag, two reusable snack/sandwich bags, and three cloth napkins.

It’s in the shop, too.
Next week’s theme is “yellow”, and I hope you’ll join us. Any type of craft is welcome; sewing, knitting, scrapbooking, creative hot gluing, anything! You don’t have to finish by Friday, in progress projects are great, too. Next week’s results will be back over at Tiny Elephant on Friday.

This is Lyra in the 19th century inspired dress that I posted about here.

My mom took these pictures, aren’t they great? Photographing a busy toddler is no small feat.

I made a listing for a custom dress like this, it’s here.

I didn’t get a chance to make a bonnet before we took pictures, but I think it would have been extra cute, so..try to imagine it. Cute, right?

El chose “holiday” for this week’s theme, but she’s Canadian, so she was thinking of vacations. Weird, eh? My mind immediately went to Halloween, and I decided to design a new costume dress.

I ended up with this 19th century-inspired dress, in Lyra’s size.

Fitting somewhere between “colonial” and “prairie”, this dress could make an adorable and original costume for so many characters..Little Bo Peep, Goldilocks, Little Miss Muffet, one of the girls from Little House on the Prairie, American Girl’s Felicity, Jill (of Jack and Jill), and so many more. It’ll be great for random dress-up play, too. I’ll be making a ruffled bonnet to go with it.

The front has pleats, ruffles, and little pearl buttons for decoration.

The sleeves are 3/4 length with ruffles. Solid purple straps tie in back.

I gave it a full circle skirt, so there’s a ton of fabric there, just begging for a pettiskirt. I absolutely love putting Lyra in big poofy skirts. I wish I had one for myself, it looks so fun!
I’m hoping to get some action shots of the dress taken this weekend, and then I’ll put a custom listing up in my shop. This one is for Lyra, but I can make more.

This week’s theme was “retro”, and I decided to design a full apron with a bit of a retro feel to it. I made one up in an autumn print because I’m in the mood for cooler weather, but I’d like to try the pattern in some bright, 50s-ish prints, too.

It has a big ol’ ruffle around the bottom and a bodice that dips just a bit.

I love the back. The wide shoulder straps criss-cross and then tie at waist level. I think it looks sturdy enough to milk a cow, yet pretty enough to serve a Thanksgiving turkey.

There’s a little pocket, too, hiding in there somewhere.
This one is for me, but I can make a couple more, so I put a listing in my shop.

This week’s Craft This! theme was “eating”. I decided to add a couple of new pieces to my collection of knitted vegetables, in the same earthy palette. What the set really needed was a carrot and a potato, right? Yum.
Here are all of the veggies together, and here‘s a new listing for the set of five.

I’ve been making messenger bags and I’m really loving it.

This bag features a bold black and white print, with birds and flowers tiled on the flap.

The black canvas outer material is tough and durable. It has interfacing inside for sturdiness, too.

With a bottle pocket on one outer side and a cell phone pocket on the other, important stuff is easy to grab. The strap is padded and adjustable for comfort and a great fit.

This bag is in the shop. Look out for more bags, coming soon! I’m also accepting orders for custom bags to fit any need.
